Super Mario Galaxy Film Teaser Debuts, Revealing New Characters Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Actors
The collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination released the initial complete preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on Wednesday. The reveal happened in a dedicated Nintendo presentation that focused exclusively on the forthcoming animated feature.
The sequel to the 2023 blockbuster The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this new installment will transport Mario to the distant reaches of the cosmos. In his journey, he meets a new princess and a powerful new opponent in Bowser Jr., the heir to Bowser's throne.
A Cosmic Adventure Inspired by Classic Games
In the vein of the games from the Wii period that serve as its inspiration, Mario will leave behind the familiar comforts of the Mushroom Kingdom to explore outer space. On his epic voyage, he will meet again some recognizable characters, including the Luma, a breakout star from the first movie.
Yet it looks like Mario and his brother Luigi will confront a new threat in the form of Bowser's furious offspring, who reportedly utilizes powers related to metal. Notably, the teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not exclusively centered on Galaxy-inspired imagery; it also contains hints to additional popular titles like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
Celebrity Voice Actors Returns and Expands
The movie will welcome back of the primary vocal talent, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Fresh faces in the lineup for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to represent Bowser Jr. This was confirmed by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.
A Significant Period for Mario
Mario's latest cinematic adventure is set to release close to the 40th anniversary of the first Super Mario Bros. title. In addition to the movie, 2026 is shaping up to be a significant year for Mario and his friends.
Nintendo confirmed a trio of new releases publicly declared for that year, including Mario Tennis Fever, a Switch 2 edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a fresh Yoshi side-scroller titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
Premiere Date Announced
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.
